Best Fall Sight Seeing Destinations in Maryland and Virginia

Autumn is an absolutely beautiful time of year. Between the crisp cool weather, the leaves turning every shade of red, yellow and orange, known to man, and the foliage that takes your breath away, no matter where you look.

Maryland and Virginia are known for having some of the best destinations for sight-seeing in our area. Take a look at our list of some of our favorite places to visit in the Fall.

  • Deep Creek Lake, Maryland—Deep Creek Lake, located in Northwestern Maryland has some of the most spectacular sites during the months of September, October, and November. Take advantage of farmers markets, concerts, antique, car and craft shows, at the Autumn Glory Festival from October 12-16.
  • C&O Canal National Historic Park, Maryland—Located in Hagerstown, Maryland, C&O Canal National Historic Park is perfect for hiking, biking and history exploration among a 184.5-mile-long canal along the Potomac River. The stunning views of the fall foliage will make you want to stay forever.
  • Elk Neck Peninsula—Located at the top of the Chesapeake Bay, Elk Neck State Park and Forest is perfect for water lovers. Dig your toes into the sand and enjoy the colorful forest around you with those closest to you.
  • Ocean City, Maryland—Although it might be too chilly to swim in the ocean, Ocean City is still a wonderful place to visit in the Fall months. Take advantage of the beautiful ocean views, incredible dining options, and shops along the way.
  • The Crooked Road, Virginia—If you love music, this might be your go-to destination. The Crooked Road is a 300-mile voyage through the breath-taking Appalachian Mountains. You’ll see and hear some of the best performers of traditional country, folk and bluegrass music, all without having to travel far to do it.
  • The James River, Virginia—If you’re a history buff, you know that the James River and the James River Plantations are a huge part of our Nation’s history. Take a trip back in time and see the history that the James River Plantations have to offer.
  • Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia—If you’re looking for an educational outing, and a little bit of adventure, a trip to Colonial Williamsburg is for you!
