New Ford F-150 – First Truck to Offer Tougher, Brighter, More Efficient LED Headlamps
- Segment-first LED headlamps available for all-new Ford F-150 will last more than five times longer than conventional bulbs
- Use of LED technology in F-150 headlamps picks up on lighting trends in smartphones, tablet computers and TVs
- Ford engineers subject LED headlamps to extreme heat and saltwater baths, and pummel with rocks, rock salt and ice to prove lamp toughness
WALDORF, MD, 2014 – When the assignment is to reinvent the Ford F-150 while maintaining its heritage of being Built Ford Tough, even the headlamps matter. Until now, headlamps often needed to be replaced long before the end of a vehicle’s life. For the all-new 2015 Ford F-150, Ford wanted extremely durable headlamps. The Ford team found the answer in a lighting technology called lightemitting diodes, or LEDs.
No other light-duty pickup truck on the road today has LED headlamps. LED lamps use 63 percent less energy than the halogen bulbs seen in competitor trucks, and the light quality and aesthetics of the technology are superior. Most important, the LED headlamps in the new F-150 are more durable than conventional lights, and are made to last more than five times longer.
“Ford fires stones at this headlamp, expose it to extreme sun, soak it in saltwater, shoot rocks, rock salt and ice – it’s very tough to crack,” said Greg Basiliko, General Manager of Waldorf Ford.
LED is the fastest-growing segment in lighting technology, according to trade magazine LED Inside. Applications include smartphones, tablets, computers, TVs, luxury sedans, industrial, commercial and outdoor lighting. Even supermarkets incorporate LED lighting to make produce look fresher. What sets F-150 LED technology apart is how the headlamps are made, and how different they are from what the industry has traditionally used. To develop this cutting-edge headlamp technology, Ford leveraged the expertise of its longtime lighting developers OSRAM and Flex-N-Gate.
With the LED lighting system available for the new F-150, Ford lighting experts had more freedom with the lamp design, because LEDs are smaller than typical headlamps and are easier to package.
The new Ford F-150 LED headlamp unit uses semiconductor chips to control the light. The technology helps make LED lights more durable and therefore longer-lasting.
Ford designers created a unique lens for the F-150 LED headlamp with special machines that carve out 16 precision optical surfaces and 80 facets on the lens face to spread the light evenly.
The innovative design magnifies the light, allowing Ford to better illuminate the road for the new F-150 driver using just a single LED per lamp.
The crowning touch for the lighting on the all-new F-150 is another first for the auto industry. Ford designers outlined the LED headlamp with a thin LED tube to create a signature appearance for the new truck that can be spotted from great distances at night.
“Remember the craze in the 1980s with truck light bars?” said Greg Basiliko. “It looks so cool. I’m telling you, this LED light tube is going to be the next big thing. Our new F-150 owners will be longing for dusk every day, just to show off their trucks in dramatic lighting.”

Ford Pays Homage to Five Decades of the World’s Favorite Pony Car with Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition
Ford Pays Homage to Five Decades of the World’s Favorite Pony Car with Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition
- The 50 Year Limited Edition builds on the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang GT fastback and will be available in either Wimbledon White or Kona Blue
- Special-edition Mustang comes standard with nearly every available option; the only choice customers have to make is color, and manual or automatic transmission
- 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will be available in fall 2014; only 1,964 examples will ever be built
WALDORF, MD, 2014 – Fifty years after debuting one of the world’s most popular cars, Ford is marking the milestone by revealing a Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition. Created to honor five decades of Mustang heritage, only 1,964 examples of the 50 Year Limited Edition will ever be built when it goes on sale this fall.
“When Mustang was approved for development more than 50 years ago, I don’t think anyone imagined it would spawn such a dedicated base of fans around the world and still be in production today,” said Greg Basiliko, General Manager of Waldorf Ford.
Based on the all-new 2015 Mustang GT fastback with performance pack, the 50 Year Limited Edition is designed to provide customers with outstanding performance and a unique appearance that will be instantly recognizable on the road. The only options for the 50 Year Limited Edition are the choice of two exclusive colors and a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
50 years of inspiration
“The new Mustang blends a muscular, contemporary shape with design cues that define it as quintessentially Mustang,” added Greg Basiliko. “The 50 Year Limited Edition adds details that set it apart from other Mustangs, while hearkening back to the 1965 original.”
The only two available colors are Wimbledon White, like Mustang serial No. 0001 that was first sold to Capt. Stanley Tucker in April 1964, or Kona Blue. Both are exclusive to this limited-edition car.
“Chrome trim was much more prevalent on cars in the 1960s than it is today, so we added some discreet highlights for the grille, side glass and tri-bar taillamps,” said Greg Basiliko. “The darker Kona Blue provides a particularly striking contrast against the chrome.”
Chrome bezels surrounding the base of each of the three taillamp blades take inspiration from the original 1962 design proposal by Gale Halderman that became the basis for the production model that debuted in 1964. The three individual lamps on each side of that design were combined into a single tri-bar lamp cluster for production, but the original concept has returned five decades on. The Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will be the only 2015 model with the large faux gas cap badge on the rear fascia, with 50 Years added to the GT designation.
Another visual element that won’t be found on any other Mustang is the louvered rear quarter-windows. Unlike the external louvers on the quarter-windows of the 1965 fastback, the new windows are comprised of layered sheets of glass built with a construction technique uniquely developed for this car.
Unique cockpit experience
From behind the wheel, drivers will know they are driving a very special car. The aluminum trim panel that spans the double-brow instrument panel gets an axel spin finish different from other 2015 Mustangs, plus a special serialized 50 Year Limited Edition badge on the passenger side. Each badge will be individually etched at Flat Rock Assembly Plant where Mustang is built.
The limited-edition is the only 2015 Mustang with a cashmere-stitched, leather-wrapped steering wheel. The stitching is also used on the instrument panel, shifter boot, center armrest, door inserts and seats. The seats feature exclusive two-tone cashmere and black leather upholstery, and the Mustang 50 Year logo on the seat backs.
Limited-edition cars will be equipped with loop-carpet floor mats with cashmere stitching and suede binding not available on other Mustangs.
A showpiece meant to be driven
Powered by the upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine delivering more than 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, every 50 Year Limited Edition will be equipped with the Mustang GT performance pack that includes massive six-piston Brembo front brakes and 19-inch alloy wheels with high-performance Y-speed-rated Pirelli P-Zero summer tires.
The 19-inch alloy wheels feature a unique Y-spoke design inspired by the chromed steel wheels that were offered on the original Mustang 50 years ago. The front wheels are 9.0 inches wide with 255/40R tires, while the staggered rear wheels are 9.5 inches wide with 275/40R tires.
The 50 Year Limited Edition is the only 2015 Mustang that will be available with a combination of an automatic transmission and the performance pack. When equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission, the Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will get a limited-slip rear differential with a 3.55:1 final-drive. Customers who opt for the six-speed manual will get a Torsen differential with a 3.73:1 final-drive ratio.
The 50 Year Limited Edition car will be among the first 2015 Mustangs built when production begins later this year. Each of the 1,964 50 Year Limited Edition Mustangs will get a unique owner’s guide in a leather portfolio with the 50 Year badge on the outside.
“We wanted to provide our most dedicated fans with the emotion of the original Mustang in a 21st century car,” said Greg Basiliko. “With this 50 Year Limited Edition, I believe we have accomplished our goal.”

His love for automobiles and especially the Ford Mustang shows. During his time at Waldorf Ford he has sold hundreds of Ford Mustangs!
When we sat down with Clarence, we wanted to find out what made The Ford Mustang so special to him and to compare it to other Ford’s. “The Ford Mustang is a sports car that has an aggressive look. The Mustang’s look makes it stand apart from all other muscle cars in the market.” When asked what his favorite mustang was he stated “It’s difficult to pick just one mustang. I have several. One of my favorite vintage mustang is The Bullitt Mustang that Steve McQueen drove in The 1968 Movie, Bullitt.
The Bullitt’s clean lines, color options, and upgrades (including being 10 to 15 Miles per hour faster than the Mustang GT) embody the true spirit of the Ford Mustang.
As far as current Mustang models Clarence loves the 2014 Ford Mustang GT 500. The reason for him is because it’s the fastest production mustang ever but he also reminded us that he is also a huge fan of 2009 and up Mustangs as well because the body style had changed.
We asked Clarence about his thoughts on the 2015 Ford Mustang he stated “With the 2015 Ford Mustang upgrades in technology it will be extremely competitive with other sports cars on the market.”
Clarence thinks that the 50th Anniversary of Ford Mustang is an important event. Whether you’re a Ford Mustang lover or not it’s important to learn about and celebrate this iconic American Muscle Car. “People should come out to Waldorf Ford on April 17th, 2014 from 5:30 am to 8:00 pm to our 50th Anniversary Party to celebrate and take a walk down memory lane” said Clarence Ball.

(Waldorf, MD) Today, Ford Motor Company awarded Waldorf Ford with the prestigious Triple Crown Award. This is the 8th year that Waldorf Ford has won this award.
The Triple Crown Award recognizes dealerships that have won the President’s Award and the One Hundred Club Award, but who also ranked high enough to be included in the Ford Customer Service Premier Club. Ford Motor Company also presented The One Hundred Club Award for 2013, which recognizes dealerships that are in the top 100 in Ford sales for the nation.
Waldorf Ford is one of only 23 dealerships in the country to win the 2013 Triple Crown Award. Waldorf Ford is among only 5 select dealerships in the United States to earn the Triple Crown Award for 8 consecutive years.
“It is quite an accomplishment for a dealership to receive the One Hundred Club Award, but to receive that and take care of the customer well enough to receive the President’s Award as well is exceptional”, stated Ford Motor Company.
“It means a lot to be recognized with the President’s Award for the 13th time,” said Greg Basiliko, General Manager, Waldorf Ford. “We earned this award only because of the hard work of all of our employees and their united attention to the best possible service to our customers.
