Tips for a Seamless Thanksgiving Road Trip

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, along with the busiest travel holiday of the year!

If you’ve traveled on this holiday in the past, you know that planning is key to a seamless, relaxing trip, and we’ve got just the list to keep you organized this year!

W Ford - November 18.jpg

  • Stay Connected – Download the latest travel apps for your phone before you hit the road—Spotify is a great channel for music, Waze will help with traffic, and Citymapper will be your best-bet for navigation!
  • Travel Late or Early – Instead of sitting in a huge mess of traffic this year, leave in the middle of the night, or early in the morning to avoid traffic jams—you’ll get to where you’re going much faster, and your passengers will thank you… especially if you have kids!
  • Pack Wisely – Make sure to bring temperature-appropriate clothing, shoes, and coats, especially if you’re heading north or to the mountains!
  • Have Your Car Serviced – Make sure that all of your fluid levels are topped off, your brakes, lights work properly, and that your car is up to date on all routine maintenance including oil changes and tires. Contact our Service Department to set up an appointment to have your car prepared for your road trip!
  • Have Travel Documents on Hand – Be sure to carry your Insurance Card, Roadside Assistance information, and any other vital information, in case of emergency.
  • Make All Stops at Once – If you have children, it might be challenging trying to travel with the constant stopping for bathroom breaks, food, and drinks, but, if you stop in a place where you can use the restroom, grab a sandwich and a bottle of water, all in one place, you’re guaranteed to save time instead of loading and unloading everyone into and out of the car at each place.

Visit us online to schedule your appointment with our Service Department, to ensure your vehicle is up-to-par for your Thanksgiving travel. Buckle up, and enjoy the ride!

Get Your Vehicle Ready for Fall at Waldorf Ford

Fall can be a busy time for any family, especially if you have kids. Between the new school year starting, extra-curricular activities, and the busy (and quickly approaching) holiday season, it’s hard to find the time to do anything, let alone prepare your car for inclement weather. Although it’s tough to find the time, it’s very important to do so, to ensure your family is safe on the road.

w-ford-september-23

Here are a few tips for safe travel when going into the Fall months:

  • Inspect Your Tires: Fall and Winter usually mean slippery conditions. Between wet leaves laying on the road and rain, sleet, and snow in the winter, you’ll want to ensure you have tires with ample tread to ensure you have good traction.
  • Check Lights: Ask a friend or family member to come outside with you while you turn on and off each light to ensure all are working properly. Fall means less day light. Make sure your lights work good while you still have time!
  • Replace Wiper Blades: Fall and Winter mean sleet, snow, rain, and everything in between. Make sure your windshield wipers can get through anything before the bad weather starts.
  • Make Sure Defroster Works: Check the functionality of your front and rear defroster to make sure they’re working properly to avoid having your windows fog up.
  • Check Your Battery: Nothing is worse than being in a hurry on a cool fall morning, just to find out that your car battery is dead. Hook up a battery tester to your car’s battery to ensure it’s in proper working order.
  • Check All Fluid Levels: Make sure you have enough fluids in your car (windshield, power steering, brake, transmission, and coolant). There’s nothing worse than an overheating car when you’re in a rush to get the kids to school.

Our technicians are ready and waiting to help you get your vehicle fall-ready—make an appointment with Waldorf Ford’s Service Department today!

Football Tailgating Hacks for your Ford F-150

There is nothing better than going to a Washington Redskins game with your family and friends, enjoying the atmosphere, the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs cooking, and the all-around good time you have, even before the game starts.

Waldorf Ford - August 26

We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite tailgating tips that you are sure to love, and you can put them to great use in your brand new Ford F-150 this year!

  • Keep a toolbox in the back of your truck, stocked full of cooking utensils, silverware, trash bags, condiments and other essentials that are easy to forget when rushing to the game. Having these items available to you without having to pack them each time will save you a ton of time.
  • Cut up and prepare all of your fixings beforehand—shape your burger patties and refrigerate between wax paper sheets, cut up all lettuce, tomato and onions so that they’re ready to go before you head to the game. Pack all of your perishable items into a cooler with plenty of ice, and load it into your F-150.
  • Throw a large plastic bin into the back of your F-150 to bring back used dishes and trash that may not have made it to a garbage can. Fill an old laundry detergent jug with water to use as a hand sanitizing station.
  • Keep a metal bucket in the back of your F-150 to throw potentially hot grilling ashes into, rather than leaving them in the grill or on-site.
  • Buy an inexpensive set of plastic drawers and keep them in the back of your truck. Keep the drawers stocked full of essentials like cooking spray, aluminum foil, plastic cups or utensils, and paper plates.

Keeping all of these items in the back of your F-150 might not seem ideal, but, with a cover on the bed of your truck, you’ll hardly even know they are there. Visit us online to discover bedcovers and liners to get your F-150 ready for football season

Ford Mustang GT Gets New Power Packages

The 435 horsepower under the hood of the new Ford Mustang GT is already enough to turn heads, and when paired with the superior handling, you’ll find that the GT is already an incredible specimen of a vehicle. There is enough power in the standard engine of the GT to knock you back, but there is enough power to keep you in control. Straight from the start, fans of performance cars were blown away with the power inside the Mustang GT, but Ford, always looking to impress, recently announced the release of three additional performance packages that will be available for the Ford Mustang.

2016-Ford-Mustang-GT-engine-02

Power packs, the first of the power packages, is a stage package of parts and engine tunes that will work on cars from 2015 to 2017 model years. Power pack one is a basic package that features a K&N high-flow air filter and an ECU tune, which increases the horsepower by 13 and boosts the torque by 16 lb-ft. The power pack one also grants the driver an increase in low-end torque as well, providing an additional 40 lb-ft when the engine reaches 1500 rpm.

The other two packages come with features that were lifted from the Shelby GT350, with their own individual tuning calibrations and different parts. The power pack 2 features the cold-air intake from the GT350, plus an 87-mm throttle body. This brings the driver a 21 horsepower increase and a 24 lb-ft increase in torque. The power pack 3 adds all the features of the power pack 2, plus the intake manifold of the GT350. This brings the driver 37 more horses under the hood and five more lb-ft of peak torque. When the engine hits 7500 rpm, look out for 60 more horsepower.
