More than 100,000 EcoBoost engines now produced every month, with a target of 1.2 million for 2013, up more than 60 percent from 2012. For the first time, EcoBoost production expected to exceed Ford’s global diesel-engine production
Customer demand exceeds projections globally with 90 percent of Escape buyers in North America and 95 percent of Kuga buyers in Asia choosing EcoBoost; in diesel-centric Europe, 39 percent of Focus customers opt for EcoBoost
Ford doubled Cologne, Germany, production of 1.0-liter EcoBoost to 1,000 engines per day, and is investing $200 million to build 2.0-liter EcoBoost in the U.S.
Ford data shows North American consumers aware of EcoBoost are more likely to buy Ford vehicles than those unfamiliar with the engine technology; EcoBoost awareness also raising opinion of Ford among European and Asian consumers
DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 17, 2013 – Ford Motor Company today celebrates a manufacturing milestone for its fuel-saving EcoBoost engines: Two million have been produced globally since the 2009 launch of the engine line.
Growing customer demand for EcoBoost-powered vehicles in major markets worldwide is driving engine production higher. Factory output now averages more than 100,000 engines per month, up from 65,000 in 2012.
“Ford EcoBoost delivers great performance with lower fuel bills, a recipe that is proving incredibly popular with consumers around the world,” said Joe Bakaj, vice president, powertrain engineering for Ford. “EcoBoost engines are attracting new customers to the Ford brand every day, and our plants are working hard to keep up with demand.”

Based on Ford’s analysis of Polk’s latest global vehicle registration data, Ford Focuscontinues to be the world’s best-selling vehicle nameplate
Focus global retail registrations up 18 percent in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the same period last year
Focus now produced in nine plants worldwide, giving Ford capacity to build more than two Focus vehicles every minute
WALDORF, MD, September 2013 – Ford Focus, the best-selling vehicle nameplate in the world last year, retains that ranking through the first quarter of 2013 with global vehicle registrations up 18 percent compared to the same period in 2012.
“Focus remains one of our most popular vehicles,” said Greg Basiliko. “It’s a fit for those who seek fuel efficiency, great styling and versatility. We encourage anyone who would like to test drive a Focus or just learn more to visit our dealership any time.”
Based on analysis of Polk’s latest global registration to date, 288,724 Focus vehicles were registered in the quarter ending March 31 – the most recent figures available.
Growth was also seen at Waldorf Ford over the last six months with 162 vehicles sold.
Globally, strong demand in key markets such as China and Brazil fueled the growth. Focus registrations in China reached 104,065 vehicles, up 153 percent compared to the first quarter of 2012. In Brazil, demand rose 18 percent, with 7,227 vehicles registered during the period.
Ford helps business owners design, quote, share and purchase custom-designed vehicle wraps through redesigned and simplified Ford Commercial Graphics tool
Improvements to the tool include access to more than 5 million images from the library of Getty Images, and an on-call designer to help businesses design their brand image
Custom options are available for the all-new Ford Transit family; the tool can be used by both small and large businesses to create a custom “billboard on wheels”
WALDORF, Maryland, 2013 – Entrepreneurs and businesses that want to develop the ultimate “billboard on wheels” now have access to Ford’s redesigned custom vehicle graphics site, http://www.fordcommercialgraphics.com/.
Improvements to the Ford Commercial Graphics tool have made the process of creating, ordering and purchasing vehicle wraps simpler than ever. The tool’s cleaner interface, ability to better customize images visually and streamlined ordering process provides customers with more control than ever to develop their brand image, said Greg Basiliko.
“The site accommodates a variety of designs and budgets – from businesses that operate a single vehicle to larger fleets,” Greg Basiliko added. “Graphics are a tremendous way to make a first impression and the retooling of this site helps customers make a better design more easily.”
For even more choices and inspiration, customers now have the ability to tap into more than 5 million images from the library of Getty Images, a world leader in stock photos. Customers also can upload their own pictures.
A new service through 3M, the company that produces Ford Commercial Graphics, allows customers to work with on-staff designers to develop a theme for their vehicle, helping businesses enhance their brand.
“It’s a true advantage to have design experts take customers through the design process of their vehicle wrap,” Greg Basiliko said. “The business still has control over the design of its graphic, but our team can help them refine their brand image.”
All production is done in-house, and installation is handled by Waldorf Ford or a specially trained installation company obtained through Waldorf Ford. Designs are covered with a clear over-laminate to add durability to the product and lessen the effects of UV light on the material. Graphics are designed to last from three to five years.
The site also allows customers to share their designs through social media sites including Facebook, giving businesses the opportunity to become even more interactive with their community and receive early feedback on designs.
Operators of the original Ford Transit Connect were among the first to take advantage of customizing their vehicles through this graphics service. Now Ford offers the option throughout its fleet of commercial vehicles so that customers of F-Series Super Duty, E-Series, the new Transit Connect and the upcoming Transit van can raise awareness for their business.
“One of the strengths of Ford’s commercial vehicles, like the Transit family, is that they are available in several configurations that can be easily customized for small-business owners,” said Greg Basiliko. “This website mirrors that versatility to allow customers to create their vision of the ideal rolling billboard for their business.”
Today I was pleasantly surprised to see our service lane transformed. What was once a very nice and steady service drive lane, here at your local Southern Maryland Ford Dealer, was now an active and exciting place! It was great to see both service employees and customers actively engaged in their vehicle health!
Chris conducting a Wheel Alignment
Today was the debut of the brand new wheel alignment check machine. Here is some trivia for you: Did you know that approximately 60% of vehicles are out of alignment? After hearing that percentage many customers (me included) were definitely taking advantage of this complementary service. I was asked by Hunter Engineering’s manufacturer representative if I would like a complementary vehicle inspection that only took 3 minutes! I thought awesome! Convenient and FREE? What more could I ask for? I did have some questions though. It just seemed too good to be true. Questions like: how were they able to inspect my vehicle in such a short amount of time? How did the computer work? How could it be free?
Well, Hunter Engineering Company‘s Representative was very excited about the freshly installed alignment check machine and was more than happy to explain how it worked. He also encouraged me to learn how the process worked. He first gave me a step by step demonstration on the inspection process and before I knew it; I was able to inspect the vehicle myself!
The Hunter Quick Check Inspection Process is more than just an alignment quick check system; it allows the operator to optimally test key maintenance items like batteries and tires.
Did you know that over 10% of vehicles have battery related issues? Like many of us, the battery is an afterthought but it’s so easy to test. So, the first thing we did was test battery. During the test we made sure that it was within OEM (Original equipment) specifications. Luckily mine was Green for Good; not Red for Bad!
Inspector Chris checking the Battery
Also, did you know that over 20% of vehicles have one or more tires in need of replacement? That’s right, so that’s why we checked for tire tread depth and tire pressure. What was most cool about this was that they let me check the tire tread depth and pressure on my own – it was so easy! I got to use this super cool Tread-Depth tool that allowed you one or three-point tire readings.
Tire Tread Depth Tool
Finally, we determined whether the vehicle needed a wheel alignment. Everything was in the green which was good.
All of this information was taken by a photo capture that then forwarded to the control console. Which then after calculating was able to create a special customized printout that clearly outlined all my test results!
This process was super cool and quick. Thank you to Waldorf Ford’s Service Department! The FREE Wheel alignment Quick Inspection definitely gave me piece of mind!

Waldorf Ford Makes Driveway Car-Washing Easy and Fun with Tips and Video
Waldorf, Maryland, 2013 – Saving a few dollars, getting a little exercise in the sun or prepping your classic for a summer cruise are just a few reasons to clean your vehicle by hand.
Besides, a freshly-washed and cleaned car just looks better, right?
Waldorf Ford has some tips for the next time you’re in the mood to grab a hose and a bucket to make the star of your driveway look its best.
Visit http://www.TheFordStory.com to watch “Ford Makes Car-Washing Easy,” a short and entertaining video featuring Gerry Bonanni, senior engineer, Paint and Body Repair and the Ford GT Mustang.
Cleaning your car’s exterior:
• Be well-soaked: Make sure the car is fully rinsed off first and kept wet during the wash. You want to float the dirt off the surface
• Use the right soap: Ford recommends soap specifically formulated for cars. “Even a mild dishwashing liquid can strip wax protection and possibly cause waterspotting concerns,” said Gerry Bonanni, senior engineer, Paint and Body Repair
• Grab your mitt: Ford recommends a sponge or wool mitt. Keep the sponge or mitt wet and sudsy to help float the dirt away instead of rubbing or scratching the surface
• Start at the top: Wash the top, then the sides and save the bottom for last, which is where the most grit typically accumulates
• Dry it off: Use a water blade and a soft towel to fully dry the vehicle
• Wax on: Ford recommends waxing your car to help keep the surface protected
• Wiper blades: Use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol
Each Ford vehicle undergoes a five-layer paint process designed to enhance long-term durability. The procedure starts with a pretreatment that protects against corrosion and ends with a clearcoat that aids in reducing chips and scratches.
Cleaning your car’s interior:
• Instrument panel: Wipe the instrument panel, interior trim areas and cluster lens with a clean, damp white cotton cloth, then use a clean and dry white cotton cloth to dry those areas. Household or glass cleaners are not recommended
• Vacuum: For fabric, carpets, cloth seats and safety belts, use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and loose dirt
• Use the right cleaners: Ford recommends using auto-specific carpet and upholstery cleaner for light stains. If grease or tar is present, Ford recommends spot-cleaning the area first with an auto-specific spot-and-stain remover
• For leather seats: For routine cleaning, wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth. For more thorough cleaning, wipe the surface with a mild soap-and-water solution. Dry the area with a soft cloth. Leather cleaning products designed for automotive interiors also are available
Summer-specific issues
Ford recommends never washing a vehicle that is hot to the touch or during exposure to strong, direct sunlight. In addition to warm weather, summer also presents other challenges when it comes to keeping your car looking nice. When you’re hit with the following, try to clean off quickly and follow these tips:
• Bird droppings, bugs, suntan lotion, insect repellent: Wash off with car wash soap and water as soon as possible
• Tree sap and tar: Use a good quality bug and tar remover and wax afterward
• Bothered by bugs? Going on a long trip and don’t want to face a windshield and/or bumper full of dead insects by the time you arrive? Wipe down your windshield with a tumble dryer sheet; bugs won’t stick to the glass as easily. Also, give your bumpers the once-over with cooking spray
• Don’t scratch it; smear it: Can’t get that sticker from the amusement park or beach parking lot off your window? Saturate it with cooking oil before you start scrubbing
Here are a couple of tips aimed at those who display their vehicles at car shows.
To clean aluminum wheels and wheel covers:
• Use wheel and tire cleaner. Heavy dirt and brake dust accumulation may require a little elbow grease with a sponge. Rinse thoroughly with a strong stream of water
• Never apply any cleaning chemical to hot or warm wheel rims or covers
To clean the engine:
• Take care when using a power washer. The high-pressure fluid could penetrate sealed parts and cause damage
• Do not spray a hot engine with cold water. You could crack the engine block or other engine components
• Use specially formulated engine shampoo and degreaser
• The battery and filters need to be covered when cleaning. Refer to your owner’s manual
• Never wash or rinse the engine while it is hot or running; water in the running engine may cause internal damage
• Never wash or rinse any ignition coil, spark plug wire or spark plug well, or the area in and around these locations
Be sure to refer to your vehicle owner guide or contact Waldorf Ford for more cleaning and care information.

MyKey® technology – now in 6 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles on the road nationwide – is there when parents can’t be in the car with their teens this summer
Ford’s MyKey technology encourages teenagers to wear their seat belts, keep the radio volume down, watch their speed and pay attention to the road – not their cell phones
2014 Ford Fiesta is the latest Ford vehicle to get MyKey technology, available in dealerships this summer
Waldorf, Maryland, 2013 – There is perhaps no bigger worry for parents than their teens’ safety, including when they get behind the wheel this summer vacation season.
Parents’ concern is more than just instinct – the numbers back it up. Ford’s analysis of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data shows teen driver fatalities increase every month beginning in May before declining in September. So who is there to remind teenagers to buckle up when their parents aren’t around? How will they know when the radio is a distraction, or to slow down?
The answer: Ford MyKey® technology – standard equipment now on 6 million Ford Motor Company vehicles nationwide, including the new 2014 Fiesta, available in dealerships this summer.
“By using our MyKey technology, parents can increase the chances their children will adopt safe driving practices,” said Greg Basiliko General Manager of Waldorf Ford. “While state laws and educational programs are critical, ultimately, parents are the most critical component to keep their teen drivers safe.”
MyKey equals love, not control
MyKey was inspired by the determination of Andy Sarkisian, Ford safety planning and strategy manager, to keep his two daughters, along with teens everywhere, safe behind the wheel.
“We were brainstorming at work, thinking, ‘Is there anything we can do to our vehicles – anything we could add – to keep our kids safer?’” recalls Sarkisian, who has been with Ford for 35 years. “At the time, I was living out the scenario at home.”
Sarkisian and his team came up with MyKey after evaluating how teens can still have their freedom while learning to be responsible behind the wheel.
“It’s not about control – it’s not anything that dramatic,” Sarkisian says. “MyKey is about love. It’s about helping your children manage the transition from childhood to adulthood, and keeping them safer while they do it.”
The easily programmable system features several options:
Persistent Ford Belt-Minder® with audio mute sounds chimes and mutes the radio to remind teens to buckle up. A message on the instrument panel is also displayed: “Buckle Up to Unmute Radio”
Volume control can limit the audio system to 44 percent of maximum output if the radio is too loud
A speed alert chime at 45, 55 and 65 mph will remind teens to slow down. Parents can also limit top speed to 80 mph
“Do Not Disturb” helps parents block incoming phone calls and hold text messages on a phone paired with Ford SYNC® when teens are behind the wheel
In addition to the typical warnings displayed when the fuel level reaches 25 and 50 miles to empty, MyKey provides an extra warning at 75 miles to remind your teen to fill up
Distracted driving is a huge concern for parents of inexperienced drivers, and Ford’s “Do Not Disturb” feature helps minimize the risk. When paired with Ford SYNC, “Do Not Disturb” blocks incoming phone calls or text messages. Calls are diverted to voicemail and text messages are saved on the device for later viewing. Drivers can still make voice-activated outgoing calls, and SYNC 911 Assist® can still make a call in case of emergency.
“‘Do Not Disturb’ is yet another way Ford is helping parents encourage their kids to drive safer,” says Sarkisian. “We are continually listening to our customers and responding to parents’ desire to make sure their kids are paying attention to the road, not their cell phones.”
